ABOUT BOATING FOR THE CURE

This year's Boating for the Cure will be held on June 26th, 2010.

MISSION

Cancer affects millions of families worldwide, and Boating for the Cure is a way to join the global fight on a local level. Communities, families and cottagers can now participate in raising awareness for breast cancer and prostate cancer through one of Muskoka's favourite activities - boating. It is our goal to bring the community of Muskoka together to step up and join the fight through a family event, in an ultimate goal to lessen the burden of cancer on a global level.

Nearly everyone has someone or knows someone who has had their life affected by Prostate Cancer or Breast Cancer. This is your chance to show how one small gesture can effect large global changes in awareness, education and a cure. Do it for yourself, do it for someone else, do it with your friends, do it with your family. Join the fight against cancer.


OVERVIEW

Boating for the Cure will be a one day event held on June 26th, 2010 in the format of a family boating rally around Lake Muskoka. The day starts off at Gravenhurst Bay, followed by the rally tour across Lake Muskoka, where participants will be collecting treasure maps to guide their journey and tokens which will be turned in at the end of the day at an awards ceremony and reception. All monies raised by pledges from supporters will be donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and Prostate Cancer Canada in support of cancer research.

The program is simple - register a team, and then collect pledges to your group online from supporters. The rally will feature one group per boat, and groups are encouraged to decorate your boat, dress up, or have a theme. If you don't have a group, register as an individual looking for a boat or individual with a boat and we will attempt to put you into a group, so that way everyone can participate.



EDGEWATER SPECIAL EDITION BOATS

For the year of 2009, Edgwater Boats will be running two special editions of their 145cc boat - one pink, one blue, to represent the fight against cancer. For every special edition Boating for the Cure 145cc sold, $1000 will be donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (pink boats) or Prostate Cancer Canada (blue boats). As part of this program, we want to encourage people to be aware of breast cancer and prostate cancer, and pushing people to make a conscious decision to get regularly checked for these burdening diseases.
